Illegal Immigration
In America we have the right to agree to disagree or so I thought. Arizona has signed an Immigration Bill that is being brought center stage. Illegal Immigration causes a great strain on this Nation, but it is necessary to realize most Americans came from families that were immigrants. These families came here looking for a better life, worked hard for their families and their communities. Most became legal citizens. There is a difference when you break the law, are we saying it is okay to break law when we have good reason. Even with the best intentions if you commit a crime you must pay for your actions.
Many people agree with the Arizona Bill Illegal Immigrants often work very hard at wages far below minimum wage. Then there is the financial strain of providing teachers and medical services for illegal immigrants. Many believe that the new arrivals are not being assimilated into the American mainstream. The large number involved, plus the fact that these immigrants operate outside the law, certainly complicates the problem.
No matter which side of the fence you are on this is American and we have the right to express our beliefs. Protesting is one way of doing this, but when you can not protest peacefully what are you truly saying about your cause. Violence is the key issue that sparked the Bill to be written. Americans should feel safe to walk the streets, fly on planes, and live on their property.
Is there a better way to handle Illegal Immigration just as with the Health Care Debate that most Americans were not happy with, I am sure there is. Maybe now that this issue has gotten the attention it deserves things will continue to move forward. Legal Immigrants have helped shape this Country.
